Sojourner Truth - Anita

  • Sojourner Truth was an African American abolitionist and women's right activist.  
  • Sojourner Truth was born in Rifton, New York and died on November 26, 1883, Battle Creak, Michigan.
  • Sojourner Truth was born into slavery by James and Elizabeth Baumfree. Elizabeth had given birth to thirteen children, and watched twelve of them being sold to other slave owners.  
  • Sojourner Truth gave birth to five children, but one died shortly after birth. She always worried that one of children would be taken away from her and sold.
  • Sojourner Truth was buried alongside her family at Battle Creek's Oak Hill Cemetery.
