Stomach Virus - Navo




  • Stomach Virus is also  known as Stomach bog, Gastroenteritis or infectious Diarrhea that involves the stomach and the small intestine. Preventing it can be caused by drinking clean water, and breast feeding babies.
  • The Stomach Virus can cause you to vomit resulting in white balls with spikes that aren't sharp. You are not allowed to eat anything till your stomach stops hurting and you stop vomiting.
  • Each year there are 1.4 millions deaths because of the Stomach Virus. The Stomach Virus affects kids or people that are in the developing world.Signs and symptoms usually begin 12–72 hours after contracting the infectious agent.
  • Risk of infection is higher in children due to their lack of immunity and relatively poor hygiene.The Stomach Ache that you get isn't this that happens because you eat too much.


Why is the sky blue - AJ


  • The sky is blue if you look up. The reason why the sky has a blue color is because of all the little particles lowing in the sky that makes you see blue.
  • The earth's and the sky's atmosphere both carry trillions of little dust particles. The little particles connect in the air and make a blue color.
  • The atmosphere's dust particle are way to small to see from the human eye. This reason is why people see the sky as the color blue.
  • When the sky shines on the earth it creates little particles. When the sun shines it brings and creates colors of the rainbow but makes the sky blue.
  • When the sun creates the colors of the rainbow it makes the blue color that bounces off of the little dust particles and makes a blue color look to the human's eye.










Pollution - Navo



  • Pollution has harmful contaminants that cause harm to the natural life.Pollution is mostly caused by factories by burning coal and wood.
  • Have you seen things in the ocean, lake or a stream.The weird thing about pollution is that woman become desperate to go to polluted areas.China, India and Russia are on of the most polluted areas in the world.
  • In London in 1272 King Edward I banned the burning sea - coal by proclamation. Chicago and Cincinnati were the two cities in US that declared cleaner air in 1881.Pollution in the US became a major issue in the 20th century.
  • 3 million horses that worked in American cities in 1900 polluted so much more than the factories because of their bad urine. Horses were trying to be transported to different countries and also triyng to be put them to sleep.


Rachel Carson - Anita


  • Rachel Louise Carson was a famous female marine biologist and conservationist who was born on May 27, 1907 in Springdale, Philadelphia and died on April 14, 1964 in Silver Spring, Maryland. Rachel grew up on a farm and learned about nature and wildlife. She even had a book published when she was just eleven years old. Later on, she attended Pennsylvania College for Women and majored in biology and later Johns Hopkins University to get a masters degree in zoology. 
  • After graduating, Rachel Carson taught for a while and then got a job with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. At first, she wrote a weekly radio program that educated people on marine biology. Then, she became a full - time marine biologist and became incharge  of weekly publications of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
  • In addition to her job, Rachel Carson wrote and published a book in 1941 called Under the Sea Wind, which was actually her second book. Her first book, The Sea Around Us, was what made her popular. Once New York Best Seller List ranked Rachel Carson's books as the most popular in 80 weeks, she quit her job with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and pursued her writing.
  •  During World War II, the U.S. government created many harmful pesticides such as DDT. These pesticides were used to kill insects, weeds and small creatures that destroyed crops. But the pesticides were also hurting harmless animals and even humans. Many health care providers were concerned, the use of the harmful sprays did not stop. Rachel Carson was also concerned, so she published her most popular book yet in 1962, Silent Springs. It refers to birds dying because of pesticides and spring being silent without their beautiful songs. Finally, people came to there senses and President John F. Kennedy banned it.
  • In 1960, Rachel Carson was diagnosed with breast cancer. She fought the disease for the last four years of her life while writing Silent Springs. In 1964, Rachel Carson finally subsided to the disease in her home in Maryland.

Why the state capital was moved to Washington D.C - AJ


  • Long ago Philadelphia was the first State to be America's state capital. The Federal Government thought about the State Capital and it's place.
  • The Government changed the state capital to Washington D. C.  They had thought the shape was not well and they focused ahead on how the capital should look like and be.
  • The Government had changed the capital because Philadelphia was on the border of our country and other countries want to kill the presidents so it would be easy for them to come and attack from their country.
  • The congress had agreed on where our capital was and the size of it's shape and place. Government thought it was safer because Washington D.C was in near the middle of our  country and it would be harder for other countries to attack from the border to the middle.
  • Once in Philadelphia in 1790 there was a vote and Washington D.C was selected and was agreed over government. A french man that used to be apart of the navy had came to America had laid out the building plans for the government and the other important buildings.










Stamp Act - Anita

  • The Stamp Act was a law that the British created in 1765 that required all the colonial residents to pay taxes on legal documents, bills of sale,contracts, wills, advertising, pamphlets, almanacs and even playing cards and dice.
  • After the French and Indian war, the British had little money and needed to pay for supplies, so they taxed the colonies.
  • When the colonies were taxed, they protested. Tax collectors were threatened and made to quit their jobs. The tax sheets were burned and the colonies even boycotted British products and merchants.
  • The colonies felt so strong about the Stamp Act that they called a meeting of the colonies. Representatives gathered from each colony in New York from October 7 to October 25, 1765.
  • During the meeting of the colonies, a group called the Liberty Brothers started to form. They used intimidation to make tax collectors resign from their jobs.
  • Eventually, the protests against the Stamp Act were hurting British merchants and products. Finally, the Stamp Act was repealed on March 18, 1766.

  • When your stressed the whole day and the next day your happy you forget everything that happened yesterday. Each week your happy it extends your life span for a few weeks. Being happy can reduce the risk of having a disease.
  • Also being happy can make you not have a heart attack.Being happy can also effect you by having normal body weight and healthier blood fat profiles.If you need help being happy be with your kids or pets. You know those funny fails on YouTube you watch that if you don't have kids or pets.
  • Kids introduce you by saying nice things.Dogs and cats make you happy by acting well trained.
  • People 60 yrs old or older that say who had a bad life will most likely to have disabilities when they're 80 yrs or older.This study doesn't prove this but scientists predict this will happen.

Smallpox - Anita

  • Smallpox a very serious illness which is caused by the Variola Virus.
  • This disease spreads through tiny drops of an infected person's saliva when they cough, talk or sneeze.
  • If someone gets smallpox, a doctor can diagnose it because of a type of rash on their skin.
  • Today vaccinations aren't given because a person hasn't been diagnosed for decades with the disease.
  • There are no pills that can treat smallpox, but scientists are doing research to try to develop   medicine for the disease. If someone does become infected with the smallpox virus, getting the  vaccine within a few days of becoming infected can lessen the disease's symptoms 

Bird Flu, Bad for birds but OK for Humans - Navo


  • The Bird Flu is worrying because it is becoming a pandemic.
  •  It is ok for Humans because the symptoms are like a normal Flu.
  • The Bird Flu is an epidemic in the states of China.
  • In Lowa they have 60 million laying hens and the largest egg producer which means they are in big Danger.
  • There is no cure yet but for humans the USDA has said to take normal medicines.



Diabetes - Anita


  • Diabetes is a condition or disease that causes your blood sugar to be higher or lower than usual.
  • Diabetes can strike adults and children at any age.
  • When you have Diabetes, your pancreas makes little or no insulin and your body prevent the insulin that your pancreas made to work.
  • If the insulin can't get into your cells, it remains in your blood and causes your blood sugar to increase.
  • Both high and low blood sugar can result in serious complications such as drowsiness, sleepiness and sometimes if so serious, death.  
  • When you have Diabetes, you are given a pen with a needle to inject insulin into your blood every time you eat.

  • The white coat or laboratory coat is a knee length smock or overcoat worn by professionals in the medical field or those involved in laboratory work.
  •  The white coats doctors wear go back more than 100 years and started with Dr. Arnold P. Gold, who used the coats to welcome new doctors into the fold.  
  •  A child's earliest memory of a doctor is the person in the white coat. Patients expect to be treated in doctors' offices, hospitals and clinics by an individual wearing white.
  • Physicians dressed themselves in black and were painted in black garb until the late 19th century.
  • Doctors do not have to wear white coats, depending on their geographic location and place of employment. Those doctors working in the fields of psychiatry and pediatric medicine usually go without wearing a white coat.

  • Chocolate is a food preparation in the form of a paste or solid block.
  • Chocolate comes from cocoa beans that were grown and still growing in South America 100 million years ago.
  • Cocoa beans have many small beans inside of them which are filled with Vitamin C and magnesium.
  • By around 20,00 BC, people in Central America (modern Mexico) were grinding up the beans and making them into a hot or cold spicy chocolate drink with vanilla or chili peppers in it or a sort of spicy porridge with corn and chilies in it. 
  • During the 1400s AD, the Aztec Empire controlled most of Central America. The Aztec government made people pay a lot of their taxes in cocoa beans, because they were expensive and you could store them for a long time.

  • Daniel Boone had gotten the idea and had created the Missouri trail that he had led his settlers to Kentucky.
  • When Daniel Boone was leading his settlers on the Missouri trial they had to fight many Native Indians and in the fight Daniel Boone's daughter was stolen by the Native Indians.
