How do rivers form their shapes? - Navo


  • From it's source in a melting mountain glacier, a river flows swiftly downhill cutting a narrow valley.
  • Smaller streams, called tributaries flow in from springs and lakes.
  • Farther down stream the terrain flattens out and the and river flows more slowly.
  • Shedding the heavy load of sand,silt, and clay it has been moving along, the river expanse of flat fertile land called delta.
  • The river widens and and forms a floodplain.
