Shetland Pony - Anita



  • Relative to their size, Shetland Ponies are recognized as the strongest Equid in existence.
  • Shetland Ponies are so strong that they can haul a truck that weighs twice as much as themselves. This enables them to be stronger than some draft horse breeds.
  • They originated in 500 B.C. and have been used all over the world for divers purposes, from a riding pony to a plow or pack pony.
  • Shetland Ponies have a small, muscular body with a shaggy coat. They can come in a variety of colors, but the most common are brown and black. In the harsh winters of early Scotland, Shetland Ponies had thick hair on their coats to protect them. Their lifespan is 20 years.
  • Scotland Ponies diet is grasses and other plants. 
  • Nowadays, Shetland Ponies are used as riding ponies and are one of the most popular breed of horse in the world.
