Great Salt Lake - Anita

  • Great Salt Lake is a lake of salt water located in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • Great Salt Lake is considered one of the natural wonders of the world. It was discovered by fur trappers in the 1820s.
  • The Great Salt Lake is salty because there are no streams or rivers attached to it so that it can drain its water.
  • Mining companies have extracted sodium chloride, magnesium, lithium, chlorine, gypsum, potassium sulfate and sodium sulfate from the Great Salt Lake's waters, which yield up to          27 % solids.
  • The Great Salt Lake is believed by scientists to be the largest lake containing salt water left from thousands of years ago.
  • It has been suggested that swimming is not allowed in the Great Salt Lake because of its salty waters. Many people have learned that the hard way. They have come out of the lake with burning eyes, noses and throats. Instead, just relax and float on the water!
